SS Sheet EN1.4162/LDX 2101
Tibnor stocks stainless-steel sheet (surface finish 1D) in grade LDX 2101 with EN-designation 1.4162. LDX 2101 is a so-called duplex stainless steel and as such is characterised by a roughly 50-50 mixture of austenite and ferrite. The chromium content is higher than for traditional austenitic stainless types such as EN 1.4301 or 1.4307 but the nickel content is much lower, having to some degree being replaced by manganese. The steel also contains minor additions of molybdenum, copper and nitrogen. The yield strength of LDX 2101 is about double that of austenitic steels like 1.4301/4307, 1.4404 or 1.4432/1.4436. The low nickel content also means that the material does not fluctuate in price to the same degree as other types of stainless steel.
Flat formats of LDX 2101 (EN 1.4162) are standardised in EN 10088-2. This standard covers hot-finished sheet with thicknesses up to and including 10 mm.
Thanks to the high content of chromium in combination with nitrogen, LDX 2101 performs better in relation to corrosion resistance than regular austenitic grades like 1.4301/1.4307. Furthermore, its duplex character renders the steel much more resistant than austenitic types to stress-corrosion cracking in chloride-laden environments. Its good corrosion resistance along with high strength makes the material an attractive alternative for load-bearing constructions outdoors, for example in the transport sector and for infrastructure.
LDX 2101 is easy to weld using the same procedures as for austenitic steels. Its cold formability is good but the higher strength means that the forces needed will be higher and springback more pronounced than for an austenitic grade with the same dimension.
